Adventures with a 2 week old and 2 year old

We have been enjoying life the past 2 weeks, getting used to having 2 children (I still get tickled saying I have 2 daughters instead of just one) and learning how to juggle both of them. Besides resting, we've had lots of adventures to exciting places such as Jim's restaurant (for breakfast) and Chilton/Clanton county (can't remember which) for strawberry picking.

Eden has learned how to pick out her own hair-ware. She's very good at it.

Eden found a great place to store her crayons: on Winnie. (I love Winnie's crossed eyes in this photo.)

We got to go strawberry picking and Eden, of course, ate a bunch.

Winnie happily hung out - literally - on me.

And that's been our life lately. Very content.

Newborn photos

Our friend from church, Amber, came over a few hours after Wynn was born to take photos of her and of Eden meeting her for the first time. Here are just a few of my favorites. I'll post more later.

FYI: We are all doing very well. Everyone is happy and healthy and adjusting beautifully! Thanks to everyone for all the well wishes. Apologies for my lack of response to texts. Combined, Kevin and I have received over 250 texts in the last several days, so we haven't responded to them all. But know we appreciate you thinking of us! :)

Nope, not yet

Happy Wednesday!

Happy Still-No-Baby-But-Oh-Well Day!

Happy Finding-Other-Things-To-Do Day!

On a completely related note, Kevin has daddy intuition that Friday night will be the night. And we'll have a boy. This intrigues me to my very core. So I'm no longer looking forward to today or tomorrow. But Friday night. That's the night.

I told him if he's wrong, I'll hate him forever.

Of course, it'll be hard to hate a person who leaves me messages like this to wake up to:

To Due List and Pouring Phase

Since the main thing I would have liked to "due" today I did not end up "due-ing," (get it?), I did other stuff to keep my mind busy. What did I due?

  • Scrubbed my kitchen floor on my hands and knees (worry not, being in the hands and knees position is very good for pregnant women in their 3rd trimester as it causes the least strain on back muscles and organs and positions the baby optimally for birthing)
  • converted some of our oversized diaper inserts into newborn-size inserts (inserts: the absorbent part of cloth diapers)
  • baked dee-licious triple chocolate cookies (heaven help me that I don't OD on these things)
  • went to a meeting for church and typed up the minutes and emailed them out
  • did dishes (as usual)
  • rearranged the dining room table so I can have better access to two children when we eat (I - cough - did have help moving them table - cough, cough...if Eden counts)
  • did 4 loads of laundry (all 3 steps - wash, fold, put away) and folded and put away 2 more
  • hung out Eden's diapers on the clothesline
  • gave Eden a really thorough bath, complete with hair conditioning and nail trim
Am I nesting? Probably. I don't know. Whatever the reason, I feel good about today. No baby, but lots of productivity. :)

Pouring Phase: This is the official phase Eden is in. If a container has a liquid in it - big or small - she will pour it out. Not in the sink. Not in the tub. Not outside. But wherever she happens to be. After cleaning up 3 cups of water today and 2 bowls of dog water, I'm already tired of the Pouring Phase. Anyone with kids out there: how long does this last? Couple of days? Hopefully? Please?

And one small favor: please, don't ask if I've had contractions. It's depressing answering in the negative. Believe me, I will let you know if something exciting is happening.

In case you're wondering...

...still no baby.

No contractions.

No signs of progressive anything.

In case you were wondering.

No baby yet

I've realized I've entered the "waiting around" stage of pregnancy. In my head, this means life goes on like normal, however mentally all I'm doing is waiting for baby. Chores - well, I get them done...ish, but it's not like my normal everyday focus. I find myself trying to come up with things to do just to make the days go by. I've treated myself to a fun drink and french fries two days in a row. I never ever do that normally. I even share the french fries with Eden, something else I NEVER do (not because I don't want to share, but because I don't want her addicted to french fries). So anywho, that's what life is like for us right now. Waiting around. Buying things at Walmart I probably don't need.
Here's our life in photos lately:

It must feel great sticking your head in a mesh container. This is not the first time Eden has done this.

On a random productive note, I did make my friend this gathered carseat canopy. I'm halfway through making one for Baby 2. Note to self: I should probably finish that thing soon.

Bubble blowing is an almost daily ritual.

Look at my poor baby's knees. She is the queen at skinning her knees. Literally, she will fall several times in one day and reskin them over and over. Bandaids have become our new magic healing best friends.
DSCN3718

My dad came to visit a week ago. We hung out and did nothing. It. Was. Great.
DSCN3721

And sorry, Dad, but I'm totally going to out you as the Bubble Master.
DSCN3724

We used Eden's pool (bought at Target last season for $3.74! I heart Target clearance!) for the first time this season on Tuesday because it was 90 degrees. Eden decided the best thing about her pool was the ability to drink from it - complete with sunscreen residue, grass, bubble solution, and dog slobber. Yum.

Don't you love discovering a new use for something? Case in point: a manual air pump - not just for inserting into pool valves, but also for inserting in your nose!

Or your mouth:

And five minutes can't go by without some dog love:

So there you have it. That's our life. Happy and happily mundane.
