Lots of firsts!

The last week or so has been filled with a lot of firsts. I'll share the most dramatic first.

Eden got her first hair cut. Now, before I post before and after photos, let me get on my defensive mommy soapbox for a minute (consider yourself warned). Now I understand that I have been blessed with a child with an abundance of hair. I know I am lucky to have a little girl who has always had a LOT of hair. However, the hair had surpassed the pleasant phase to the annoying phase. It would be get caught in her armpits and she couldn't turn her head. It got caught in her mouth and made her gag. It would (warning: grossness ahead) string itself in her poo and hurt coming out. She had to hold it out of her eyes all. the. time. So the pragmatic side of me made a decision (with Kevin's blessing) to cut it all off. I was completely torn between keeping my child's beautiful hair in cute pigtails and admiring the natural curls (which I don't think about a lot right now because it still makes me want to cry) and allowing my child to live life without being obstructed by her hair. It was just too much hair for a toddler. So I took her to get it cut off. I'm still very sensitive about this because all I hear is "I can't believe you cut it off! It was so beautiful!" I know that, people! It was painful to watch it get cut, but life has been so much easier without it. So I guess if you don't mind me borrowing a lesson from Thumper's mother, if you don't have something nice (or supportive) to say (i.e. "It's so cute short!"), then don't say anything at all (i.e....*crickets chirping*...).

Thank you. My apologies for my ranting. And now I will proceed.

And now for some more firsts:

Eden went to the dentist for the first time. She was fine till the dentist wanted to look in her mouth. Then when he was done, she was fine again. Ah, the magic of balloons and stickers.

Winnie ate solids - on purpose - for the first time (Eden's feeding her crackers, bread, and peanut butter don't count in my book). She had mashed banana.

She wasn't a big fan.

Eden got her first tricycle ($10 from a consignment sale - woohoo!). She doesn't quite understand the pedaling and steering yet but she loves her "bi-see-cle."

Last but not least, Winnie sat up unassisted.

Then she fell over. Then today she pulled herself up unassisted. I swear tomorrow she's going to start walking.

In other current events, we went to the fair (don't you love how well my children are posing for the photo?):

We went to the pumpkin patch:

And Eden started learning early about the importance of breastfeeding:

Yes, that's Eden with my breast pump.

And finally, because I couldn't pass it up, I have to show you this sign we saw at the fair. Yes, Alabama strikes again.

Do Not Inter.

Don't worry, Alabama. I don't really want to anyway.

I'm not just saying this--I LOVE Eden's hair cut!! SO cute! She looks so grown up and still so toddler appropriate cute! Does that make sense? She looks like you when your hair is short! Are you gonna cut your hair to match!? :D
